People who live behind a red door are happiest

275x250.jpg

A study which quizzed 2,000 people about all aspects of their lives has revealed those who live in homes with a red front door are the happiest.

Over half of those polled were convinced the front door colour gives a lot away about its owner and the type of person they are.

And as such researchers found red front door owners are the biggest extroverts and are more relaxed in their approach to life.

Those with scarlet coloured doors are also the happiest generally, with white, green and brown all colours of the people who were most content in life.

The study also revealed that black front door owners are the most successful in their careers, while those with purple doors are the most sociable and the most likely to have a group of very close friends.
And a pink front door is the choice for those who are daring, and who also have the most friends.

While going for the orange or terracotta look might not do much for your working life, it was the colour chosen by people who were happiest in their relationship.

People living behind a green door are the most trustworthy, while pinks are full of mischief.

A spokesman for Farrow & Ball, which commissioned the research to launch their Great Outdoors competition to find the world’s best exterior door, said: "A front door is the first thing you see when you are approaching someone’s house and can tell you a lot about the home and its owner.

"It shows that colour can say so much about our personality and the front door can be seen as an indication of the type of person we are.

"The research indicates that Brits are perhaps subconsciously painting their front doors to reflect a particular mood or personality."

Is this the most embarrassing wedding moment ever caught on video?

Every bride wants her big day to be a memorable affair and one which people can't stop talking about… though probably not like this.

A embarrassing wedding video is currently doing the rounds which shows a bride being left red-faced after her skirt falls down to the tune Bittersweet Symphony.

The unnamed bride had been walking down the aisle when she tripped on the carpet and unintentionally (assuming the video is not a fake -- which it probably is) exposed her rear.

After picking up the discarded wedding attire the bride can be seen running back away from the ceremony -- as the photographers aim their lenses at her and cameras keep rolling.

Addict escapes caning after sex change

A recalcitrant drug addict in singapore has been spared the cane as he is now a she. Preeta Nivashani M. Rechnam underwent a sex change operation in Thailand in 2006.
The 40-year-old is now considered a woman and had been remanded in the Changi Women’s Prison since Dec 10 last year, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Kenneth Wong.

She was sentenced Monday to seven years and three months in jail for consuming syabu.

As Preeta had served the Long-Term Imprisonment 1 (LT1) sentence of five years and three strokes of the cane in 1998 for abusing morphine, she was liable for enhanced punishment as an LT2 offender.

Addicts who return to consuming drugs after going through the level-one punishment, are jailed between seven and 13 years. Male offenders are also caned between six and 12 strokes.

DPP Wong had told the court then that she was arrested after midnight on Dec 2 last year with two men in a room at Oxley Hotel in Geylang.

Tests by the Health Sciences Authority revealed traces of syabu and heroin in her urine.

The charge for consuming heroin was taken into consideration by district judge Liew Thiam Leng in sentencing her.

Lawyers said it was unlikely for a man to change sex just to escape caning for an offence.

1 in 3 UK teenage girls 'sexually assaulted'

A British survey has found that a third of teenage girls in the country become victims of sexual violence by their boyfriends.
Experts fear that some do not even realise they are victims of a crime and others are too terrified or embarrassed to speak out, the Daily Mail reported on Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who was helping to launch an unprecedented advertising campaign to stem the tide of abuse, told an audience of teenage girls Monday that the latest figures were shocking.

Clegg said: "We've got such a highly sexualised culture at the moment and there are huge pressures."

"Any parent of a teenage girl will tell you there's huge pressures on teenage girls to conform to behave in a particular way, and I just think it's really important we give them the protection they need that when they say 'no' it means 'no' and the law is on their side."

Based on research by the NSPCC, a child support charity, and the University of Bristol involving 1,353 teenagers, the Home Office says a third of girls aged 13 to 17 have been the victim of some form of sexual violence from a partner.

A TV ad, which will be screened during youth programmes will depict a boy coercing a girl into sex at a party, despite her pleas to stop

And research shows that the problem is not just confined to girls, with 16% of boys also reporting that they have experienced some form of sexual violence from a boyfriend or girlfriend.

It found that the highest proportion of sexual abuse - 66% - is perpetrated by young people under the age of 18. It is thought that up to 900,000 young women are victims of sexual crimes that are likely to leave them scarred for life.

Further research found the highest proportion of sexual abuse is perpetrated by under-18s. Officials discovered that while most teenagers know rape is wrong, many do not realise that sex without consent is always a crime.

The advertisement - to be broadcast on TV, in cinemas and online - urges young people to rethink their view of what constitutes rape.

It will be screened to viewers of TV programmes popular with teenagers such as Skins and Hollyoaks.

Research has shown some boys think girls must have sex with them if they spend enough money on them.

And campaigners say teenage girls often accept abuse in a relationship because they do not realise it is wrong or know how to stop it.

Mum locked girls in frigid bedroom

A three-year-old girl from Alaska, America's northernmost community died and her younger sister suffered hypothermia after their mother and the mother's boyfriend left them in a locked bedroom with a window open to a temperature of minus 34 deg C to air out the room because the girls wet their beds, authorities said.

The mother, 28-year-old elementary school teacher Esther G. Edwards-Gust, was apparently on the lam on Saturday, a day after she and 29-year-old Richard Tilden Jr. were indicted in the child's death.

Tilden was in custody.

The couple shared a home with Edwards-Gust's one and three-year-old daughters in the Inupiat Eskimo community of Barrow.

Police say the two girls last month were trapped overnight in their bedroom with a window open to temperatures that dropped to 34 deg C below zero.

Both children were diagnosed with extreme hypothermia and flown to an Anchorage hospital, where the three-year-old died.

World's biggest albino family

A mum and dad in India told of their pride after raising the world's biggest albino family.

White-skinned Indian couple Roseturai Pullan, 50, and wife Mani, 45, have EIGHT other family members who are albinos.

They have overcome years of prejudice and hardship — but now the unique ten-strong group are in line for official recognition with a Guinness World Record.

Sons Vijay, 25, Shankar, 24 and Ramkishan, 19, and daughters Renu, 23, Deepa, 21 and Pooja, 18, inherited their albinism.

Renu wed another albino Rosheh, 27, and their two-year-old son Dharamraj also has the condition.

The family — who live in a crammed one-bedroom flat in Delhi — all have pale skin, white hair and poor vision, a side-effect of being albinos.

Roseturai told The Sun: "I've heard people call us 'angrez', which means 'English'. It's hard for people to understand we're born and bred Indian.

"All we know is that we can't see properly, and we can't sit under the sun for long, but we live the best we can."

Roseturai and Mani had an arranged marriage in 1983. They moved from Tamil Nadu in southern India to Delhi, where Roseturai sells eggs from a stall.

He said: "Our parents thought it best we marry as we were 'the same'. In South India we were told if you marry a person with albinism it signals good luck and riches.

"Well, that hasn't been true of us yet. We had a very tough life, especially in the South where people thought we had a disease and treated us like outsiders.

"People in Delhi are a little more open-minded, but many think we're foreigners."

He vowed: "Albinism won't get us down."

Mani admits she went to hospital for a hysterectomy after her first child was born, determined not to bring any more albinos into the world. She said: "I didn't want my children to suffer as we did, but the doctor got scared just looking at me and sent me home. I never went back and have had many children, all with albinism. Now I see it as a gift from god."

Mani, who has an albino sister, added: "I was teased and called various names as I grew up. It made me cry so many times. It's hard living as we do in a country like India, but we're still happy now."

She said their children — who all went to a school for the blind and use a magnifier to read — have already accepted they will not get good jobs due to their sight problems. Oldest son Vijay said: "I'm qualified to work with computers, but my vision means a job is hard to find." He added that when he has saved enough to wed he wants to have an albino wife.

"It's easier if I marry a girl with the same condition as me. I just need to find her."

The family hope they will soon be officially awarded a Guinness World Record.

The next biggest albino families — six-strong — live in the US and Canada. Guinness World Records last night said staff would be contacting the Pullans to verify the record.

The family are looking forward to global recognition. Roseturai said: "We're a great family so it'd be nice for people to know who we are." - www.thesun.co.uk

Teacher, HM fight in front of pupils

PENANG: A teacher and a headmaster got into fisticuffs yesterday in full view of a classroom of pupils.
The incident at a primary school in Air Itam near here allegedly began at 9.30am when the headmaster, 48, was making his rounds and came across a noisy classroom.

Furious over the lack of discipline among the pupils, the headmaster decided to record the scene with his camera.

Armed with the evidence, he confronted the class teacher and admonished him for failing to control his class.

An argument ensued which soon escalated into a fight.

The noisy classroom turned quiet as stunned pupils watched the teacher and headmaster trading punches and kicking each other.

The ruckus attracted the attention of other teachers who rushed in to separate the duo.

It is learnt that both the teacher and headmaster had sought treatment of injuries at a hospital.

When contacted, the headmaster said he would leave it to the authorities to investigate.

“I am a civil servant and I cannot say anything to the press. Let the police investigate. I have nothing further to say.”

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Gan Kong Ming said police had classified the case as voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code.-nst

‘WWW’ number plates to net record high prices

PUTRAJAYA: The “WWW” vehicle registration number may break the record as the most expensive registration number when booking starts on April 30.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said there had been many enquiries and telephone calls regarding the “WWW” registration number.

He said the huge interest could see the “WWW” registration number recording the highest booking price in the country.

“One of the reasons the people are so interested in having the registration number is because it is the acronym of the World Wide Web.

“Based on the interest shown, we believe the registration number would not just be a hot item, but a record of the highest booking price,” he said yesterday.

The highest bid for a vehicle registration number in the country so far was MCA1, bought for RM300,100 in 2010, surpassing a previous record of RM242,000 for the Terengganu-issued TAY1.

Kong said bookings for the “WWW” registration number could be made at the Federal Territory’s Road Transport Department in the capital.

“The booking is opened until May 14 from 8am to noon,” he said.

He said there were four registration number categories – premium, attractive, popular and running.

“Premium numbers are from 1 to 10 with a minimum booking price of RM10,000 while “attractive” numbers are sold at a minimum of RM2,000.

“Popular and running numbers are sold at a minimum price of RM300,” he said.

Kong said the department collected an average of RM1.7mil annually from sales of registration numbers.

Last year, it collected more than RM1.8mil and the year before, it managed to get RM1.6mil.-the Star
